The public-health assistant that makes verified information easier to reach.
As a social-responsibility project, CBOT built Koronabot and its English counterpart Botcorona to help people reach verified coronavirus information quickly, in both Turkish and English.
During the coronavirus outbreak, reliable information was as important as the response itself, and misinformation spread quickly. With a social-responsibility perspective, CBOT built Koronabot to help people find confirmed answers to their questions. Its responses were based on information published by the Turkish Republic Ministry of Health, other relevant ministries and official institutions around the world. Koronabot was available on koronabot.com and was also featured on the CNN Türk news portal so it could reach more people; an English version, Botcorona, was available on botcorona.com. Its mission was simple: help people access confirmed information in the easiest and fastest way.
“Koronabot's mission was to help people reach confirmed coronavirus information, drawn from the Ministry of Health and official institutions, in the easiest and fastest way.”
In the early phase of the pandemic, people had urgent questions about the virus, its symptoms and how to protect themselves, while unverified claims spread just as fast. The difficulty was not a lack of information but reaching the confirmed answer quickly, without wading through conflicting or misleading content. Reliable guidance from official sources existed, but it was scattered and not always easy to find at the moment someone needed it.
People needed a clear way to separate confirmed guidance from the unverified claims spreading during the outbreak.
Every response had to rest on information published by the Turkish Republic Ministry of Health, other ministries and official institutions, not on unverified content.
People needed the fastest possible path to a confirmed answer, without searching across scattered sources at an anxious moment.
To help as many people as possible, the assistant had to serve both Turkish speakers, via Koronabot, and English speakers, via Botcorona.
CBOT built Koronabot as an assistant that answers people's coronavirus questions using confirmed information from official sources, and made it easy to reach on the web. To widen its reach, Koronabot was featured on the CNN Türk news portal, and an English counterpart, Botcorona, served people who wanted to ask their questions in English.
Koronabot's answers were based on information published by the Turkish Republic Ministry of Health, other relevant ministries and official institutions around the world, so people received guidance they could trust.
Koronabot was available on koronabot.com and featured on the CNN Türk news portal, putting confirmed answers within easy reach for a wide audience.
Alongside the Turkish Koronabot, CBOT developed Botcorona on botcorona.com so English-speaking users could ask their questions and reach the same confirmed information.

Koronabot answered coronavirus questions from confirmed official sources on the web and on CNN Türk, in Turkish, with Botcorona serving English speakers.
Koronabot and Botcorona showed how, in a moment when reliable information mattered most, an assistant grounded in official sources could help people reach confirmed answers quickly, in both Turkish and English.
The same approach, grounding an assistant in confirmed and official sources, can be applied to any public-information need where reaching a trustworthy answer quickly matters.
